What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is a very ancient practice for healing which is deeply rooted in connection with Nature. While the word ‘shaman’ comes from Siberia, there is a centuries-old Celtic tradition of shamanism too. The fascinating thing about Shamanic practice is the remarkable similarity in the basic practices in different places across the world.
Celtic shamanism allows the individual to journey back and forth through areas of consciousness to find understanding, healing and help. It is a way to connect to our spiritual essence through a mystical connection with nature, and it is a wisdom practice that never ceases to evolve, and is always changing. It is a way to continually grow and heal that is learned through our own personal experience, through the use of trance in a very similar manner to the way it is used in hypnotherapy. Shamanism is a powerful and beautiful way to strengthen our connection to Nature and come into line with our true spirit and purpose in life.
What is Shamanic Journeying?
Shamanic journey work is a way to understand and heal imbalances within ourselves which create difficulties and suffering in our lives. The path of shamanic journeying can start at many levels and explore many different issues. Journeying in itself involves the creative imagination, stimulated into a trance state similar to that of light trance in hypnotherapy, by the repetitive sound of the drum. I can guide you on your first steps into Shamanic Journeying, as a qualified Shamanic Practitioner with the Irish Centre for Shamanic Studies, opening up for you a magical and transformative spiritual practice that can enrich every part of your life and become a lifelong, life-enhancing practice.
Shamanic Journey work is a motionless journey, where we use our powers of intention to focus, and to enter a state of non-ordinary reality where we can make contact with compassionate spirits or guides who can help us with the challenges we face in our existence here in the Middle World. We journey to create relationships with these guides and helpers which emanate from the natural world in energetic forms that we can recognise. Our intention to connect, and their intention to assist, come together in a shamanic journey, allowing us to gain insight and understanding about our place in the world from these wiser, more highly-evolved beings. We come to understand the influences that affect our present and future realities more clearly, and make better decisions based on a sound understanding of those influences.
Celtic Shamanism is not a belief system. It supports any existing practice we may hold, and asks only for a deep and profound connection with the energies of the worlds through which we move. Taking part in shamanic journeying is a process, and not a belief system. The more we work with the energies we encounter, the more we grow in understanding and awareness of the interconnectedness of all things. This is an accessible practice and anyone with an interest in the natural world and with an open mind can learn techniques and practices which will, with practice, become a life-enhancing skill that can be built on for a lifetime and beyond! There is nothing to fear in taking the first steps. I will work with you one to one, to explain the basic concepts and prepare you for the initial journeys that will introduce you to the wonderful worlds that exist alongside and through the one we inhabit. Straight talking and straightforward, I can present the basics of shamanic practice in an empathetic, sensitive and supportive way, ensuring your safety and steady progress towards independent journeying, to take you far beyond your wildest dreams!
