Solution Focused Hypnotherapy with Rosie is a partnership. I work with you on evidence-based techniques which calm the mind and support you to think more creatively and constructively about difficulties you are experiencing in your life. Using a powerful combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis, I can help you make remarkable changes to the way you think, feel and react to life’s stressors in a relatively short period of time.
Unlike traditional counselling, Solution Focused Therapy concentrates on the present and the future in a positive way- identifying and focusing on how you want things to be, rather than thinking constantly in a negative, stuck way. Thinking about life in a positive way helps rewire your brain, and this is a really important part of the process because it helps build new healthy patterns of behaviour. As a result you’ll be less likely to dwell on things in life, breaking the exhausting cycle of negative thinking.
Each session is far more than just hypnosis. We begin by exploring the positive things that have happened for you since the last session. This coaches your brain to default to positive thought patterns so that you can use the entire extent of your learned resources to find effective solutions to your problems. We’ll explore how these positive things makes you feel, helping you visualise small steps towards your new goals which then become more achievable. This process helps you think using the part of your brain that is intellectual and can come up with creative solutions. When we think from this part of our brain, we generally get things right in life as it’s logical and makes proper assessments of the challenges we meet in day to day life. We can’t always change the events in our life, but with practice, we can change the way we choose to think about them and so, the way in which they affect our ability to be happy and successful in all areas of life.
The final part of each session uses hypnosis to guide you into deep relaxation and a state of focused attention. We call this relaxed, focused state Trance. It’s not at all true that hypnosis can make you say or do things against your will- the fact is that you’re always in control. Indeed, we all enter Trance many times a day quite independently, when we’re focused something or thinking about something very deeply, for example, when we drive to a familiar destination and realise when we arrive that we can’t remember part of the route. Of course, if a car pulls out in front of us suddenly, we can switch back on immediately and deal with the situation without delay. In the same way, we are fully conscious in Trance during Solution Focused Therapy, and able to come back into the room at any time we please.
In the Trance state your mind is more responsive to suggestions that are designed to help you change unhealthy negative thought patterns. This means that new ideas and solutions to our problems can be found much more readily, because we can access the subconscious – that part of us that helps us calmly look and think about our responses, rather than letting them take us over automatically. We can learn to decide which of our habitual responses are helpful and which are unhelpful, so that we can make new, healthy decisions about how we react to challenges in our lives. Because, of course, challenges will always arise – that’s the nature of life – but it is how we deal with them that determines whether we are happy or unhappy, energised or depleted.
I have enjoyed seeing really remarkable changes in many people who have worked with me in Solution Focused Therapy, and I can help you too! Several sessions are usually required, but because it’s a brief therapy, change can happen in a relatively short period of time. So why not join them – take the first step and book a free initial consultation to find out how you too can get your smile back!
